The Opportunity

Skilled Careers are working with a well-established main contractor who is looking to appoint an experienced Freelance Project Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team on a long-term contract based in Brighton.

The primary project is a £6m Design & Build JCT scheme, involving the construction of a concrete frame extension and façade package to an existing building. Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of the project from procurement through to final account.

As the Brighton scheme is forecast to require approximately three days per week, you will also support a second £2m Design & Build project in Kent, providing additional commercial oversight and ensuring successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Procurement and management of subcontract packages.
• Preparation and management of CVRs.
• Cost reporting and financial forecasting.
• Subcontractor procurement, administration, and commercial management.
• Variations, valuations, and change control.
• Managing payments and supplier accounts.
• Risk and opportunity management.
• Final account negotiation and agreement.
• Working closely with site teams and operational management.
• Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager on project performance.

Requirements

We're keen to speak with Quantity Surveyors who can demonstrate:

• Proven experience working as a Project Quantity Surveyor for a main contractor.
• Strong Design & Build project experience.
• Sound knowledge of JCT forms of contract.
• Experience managing projects from procurement through to final account.
• Excellent commercial awareness and reporting skills.
• Ability to work independently whilst collaborating with the wider project team.
• A solid and stable employment history.
• Strong references from previous employers and clients.
