Senior Civil Engineer – Drainage, Flood Risk & Highways (S278)

We are working in partnership with a leading, award-winning engineering consultancy to appoint a Senior Civil Engineer into their highly regarded London infrastructure team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a top-tier, multi-disciplinary consultancy delivering some of the UK’s most high-profile urban regeneration, residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.

The Role

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will take a leading technical role in the design and delivery of:

• Surface & foul water drainage systems (SuDS, detailed design, approvals)

• Flood Risk Assessments & drainage strategies

• Highways design (S278, S38, S104 agreements)

• External works & levels strategy

• Section 106 & planning support

You’ll manage projects from concept through to detailed design and construction, liaising closely with clients, local authorities, architects, and contractors.

This role offers clear progression toward Principal/Associate level within a structured and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead drainage and highways design on complex development projects

• Produce and review detailed design drawings and calculations

• Prepare Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies

• Coordinate S278 and S38 submissions with local authorities

• Mentor and support junior engineers

• Attend client meetings and represent the business technically

• Contribute to fee proposals and project programming

About You

We’re looking for a technically strong, commercially aware engineer with:

• 6+ years’ UK consultancy experience

• Strong drainage and flood risk design expertise

• Proven experience delivering S278 highways schemes

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage

• Experience liaising with London Boroughs and approval bodies

• Working toward (or already achieved) Chartership (ICE or similar)
