Freelance Document Controller
Rate: £20–£24 per hour DOE
Location: Brighton area, East Sussex

Skilled Careers are currently working with a key client in East Sussex who are looking to appoint a meticulous and proactive Freelance Document Controller to support the delivery of multiple construction projects across the South East.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Document Controller with a strong understanding of digital construction processes and common data environments (CDEs) to join a busy and growing project team.
The Role
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting up to three live construction projects, ensuring project information is managed accurately, efficiently, and in line with project requirements.
Working closely with delivery teams across multiple disciplines, you will help maintain consistency, transparency, and traceability of project documentation from tender stage through to project handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing and maintaining project documentation within the Common Data Environment (CDE)
- Ensuring all information follows correct naming conventions, metadata requirements, and version control procedures
- Administering document workflows, approvals, and permissions across project platforms
- Supporting project teams with the timely upload, review, and distribution of project information
- Maintaining document registers, transmittals, and audit trails
- Assisting with compliance reviews and quality assurance checks prior to information exchange
- Coordinating information flow between project teams, consultants, subcontractors, and clients
- Providing guidance and support to internal teams and supply chain partners on document control procedures and CDE usage
About You
- Proven experience in a Document Controller position within construction, refurbishment, or public sector projects
- Practical experience using Common Data Environments (CDEs) such as Viewpoint, Asite, Aconex, 4Projects, or similar
- Strong understanding of document control procedures and best practice
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Confident working across multiple live projects simultaneously
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Proactive, collaborative, and able to work effectively within busy project teams
