Design Manager Position

We’re looking for a Design Manager to join a busy main contractor and support the delivery of exciting building projects across Manchester. This is a permanent role offering long-term career progression within a company that genuinely values professional development and internal growth. 

What will you be doing? 

You will take ownership of the design process from pre-construction through to project completion, ensuring designs are coordinated, compliant, and delivered on programme. Working closely with project teams, consultants, and subcontractors, you will play a key role in driving quality and managing risk through each scheme. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Managing and coordinating the design process from tender through to handover 
• Liaising with clients, consultants, architects, and subcontractors 
• Reviewing and managing design programmes to ensure project deadlines are met 
• Identifying and mitigating design risks and opportunities 
• Ensuring compliance with current building regulations and technical standards 
• Leading design team meetings and driving collaborative project delivery 
• Supporting the commercial and operational teams with design-related matters 

What are they looking for? 

• Proven experience as a Design Manager within a main contractor environment
• Strong understanding of D&B projects across commercial or residential sectors 
• Excellent communication, coordination and organizational skills 
• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and drive design programmes 
• Technical knowledge of UK building regulations and construction processes 
• Relevant construction or design qualification
