Assistant Planner – Main Contractor – South West London 

£35k – £45k base salary + package

A unique opportunity to join an established and reputable Main Contractor, who work on exciting and challenging residential projects. 

This main contractor is looking for an Assistant Planner to join the team and to have the opportunity to work with experienced Senior Planners. This will be supporting a Senior Planner on £120million mix-use residential development in South West London. This development consists of 462 units over 4 RC Frame blocks and up to 12 storeys, mainly focused on private and affordable units.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Creating, maintaining and reviewing programmes of work
  • Planning contingency programmes
  • Liaising with managers and other project team members to discuss the progress of the project and address any issues that arise
  • Candidate will ideally have several years practical on site experience
  • Establish optimal construction methodologies, logic sequences & work outputs
  • Develop and communicate the optimum project time model through all phases of the proposed project including planning, design, procurement, pre-construction, construction, commissioning, handover and occupation
  • Participate in the communication of the programme to the production team to ensure they understand the constraints, risks and issues
  • Ensure compliance with business planning & control procedures
  • Acquire consistent and accurate data from project team and suppliers for measuring progress
  • Identify & monitor Key Dates
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports on progress against programme & input into the production progress reports for team members, clients and stakeholders
  • Advise the Project lead of progress and associated issues including possible solutions

Qualifications and skills

  • An understanding of basic project build processes
  • Time management and planning skills
  • High Attention to detail
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Good team and individually working ability
  • A Site Management background is beneficial
  • Persistence and determination
  • Communicates clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; listens actively to others, asks questions to understand their needs; gives clear instructions; handles disagreements and conflict effectively. Ensures others fully understand the message being conveyed
  • Communicates their views & concerns openly, honestly and will constructively challenge others
  • Possesses good presentation skills and is able to present the methodology and programming aspects of a project in a manner appropriate to the target audience
  • On-site, ideally management, background, ideally residential
  • An appreciation of site H&S requirements
  • Ability to read drawings and specs
  • Ideally Asta Power Project knowledge/usage but at minimum planning experience required (e.g. could be use of excel/paper planning)
  • Confidence to work within teams and ability to present/collaborate with members of the project team
  • Methodical, imaginative and analytical thinking; a Strong Problem-solving ability
  • An organised approach to working
