£45,000 – £55,000 base salary + £5k Car Allowance + Pension + Holiday + Travel paid to site + Life Insurance


A unique opportunity to join a large Main Contractor based in London, who work on exciting and challenging projects across variety of sectors with great reputation for delivering results.

This main contractor is looking for an Assistant Design Manager to support all pre and post contract design activities associated with bidding, procurement and construction.

The project they are looking for an Assistant Design Manager to get involved in is a project based in London for a large Hospital based in Central London. The project is valued at £150 million and is currently in preconstruction stages.

My client has a turnover of £980 million, with multiple offices up and down the UK. This cash-rich Contractor is still privately owned with no debts and a large sum in the bank. They have a great family feel and also offer flexible working to all their staff.


Key Responsibilities

  • Aware of the responsibilities under CDM and gains acceptance of a considered approach to managing design risk.
  • Develops relationships with site staff and helps resolve HSE issues.
  • Ensure the design recognises all aspects of health & safety, environmental and quality related matters.
  • Ensures the correct application and secure use of appropriate technology within the design team.
  • Understands the link between own work and project strategy and undertakes work with this as a key driver.
  • Compiles relevant information in order to assess the suitability of design sub – contractors.
  • Quickly recognizes implications of imposed changes and, where necessary, notifies their line manager of potential impact.
  • Develops and maintains change management procedures for the Project


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Main contractor experience is essential
  • Ability to sometimes lead, chair and influence multi party teams and stakeholders
  • Good interpersonal skills including, communication and team building
  • Understanding of Traditional and Modern Methods of Construction (MMC)
  • CSCS
  • Technical skills and the ability to use design and project management software
  • Problem solving skills and creative thinking
  • Attention to detail
  • Organisation and time management
  • Commercial awareness
  • Teamworking, relationship-building skills
  • Understanding of client management skills
