Housing and community services provider One Manchester has appointed Kevin Williams as its executive director of growth and assets.
Mr Williams will join later this year from The Guinness Partnership, where he is currently director of asset and growth strategy. He will continue One Manchester’s commitment to providing high-quality, sustainable housing, and ensure that customers and communities remain central to the provider’s growth strategy.
BME London Landlords
BME London Landlords, the collective of 14 BME-led housing associations in London, has named Ben Laryea, chief executive of Ekaya Housing Association, as its new chair.
Mr Laryea takes over the role from Gina Amoh, chief executive of Inquilab Housing Association.
In the role, Ms Amoh oversaw the evolution of the Build London Partnership with L&Q and the Greater London Authority. It enables members of BME London Landlords and other small associations in the capital to acquire new affordable housing properties at cost value from L&Q.
Mr Laryea took up his current role at Ekaya Housing Association in February 2018. Prior to this he was deputy chief executive of Westway Housing Association.
Housing provider Stonewater has appointed Anne Costain, former director of resources at Thrive Homes, as corporate finance director.
Ms Costain worked in finance roles for seven years at Radian Group before taking on an interim contract at Thrive. She is a chartered accountant and a member of Southern Housing Group’s finance committee.
Elim Housing has welcomed a new chief executive, following the retirement of Alistair Allender. Paul Smith took up the role at the circa 870-home provider on 1 October.
He was most recently cabinet member for homes and communities at Bristol City Council, and has previously worked with Mr Allender on the Bristol Homes Board and in jointly launching the Bristol Homes Charter in 2019.
L&Q has appointed Louise Brooke-Smith OBE, former global president of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, to its board, replacing Simon Rubinsohn, who steps down after nine years.
Dr Brooke-Smith, who formally began her new role on 1 October, will also serve as chair of L&Q’s development committee.
Since stepping down from her previous role as partner and UK head of development and strategic planning at engineering company Arcadis, Dr Brooke-Smith has taken on several non-executive positions on the boards of organisations including the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership, The Land Trust and Polypipe Group.
Golding Homes has welcomed two new board members, following a refresh of its structure: Ashling Fox, chief operating officer for Peabody, and Owen Ingram, an experienced chair, non-executive director and interim chief executive of registered housing providers and health authorities. The South East association recently confirmed that Sue Chalkley will remain interim CEO until September 2021.
Barbara Spicer, chief executive of Plus Dane, has announced that she will step down after six years at the organisation, to concentrate on her health following major leg surgery.
Allia C&C has opened an office in Glasgow to serve clients in Scotland and the North of England. Peter Freer will head the office, where he will be responsible for Allia C&C’s charitable bond programme with the Scottish government.
Long-serving construction sector finance chief Haydn Mursell is to take up the role of chair at ‘airspace’ developer Apex Airspace, replacing Chris Phillips.
Mr Mursell brings nearly 20 years’ experience in the industry, including as chief financial officer at Lendlease, deputy group finance director at Balfour Beatty and, most recently, chief financial officer and chief executive of Kier Group.
Radian Group, which merged with Yarlington in 2019, has appointed Wayne Morris as its chair designate. Mr Morris has 30 years’ experience at chief executive level for major housing providers across the South of England. He joined the Radian board in 2019, having previously held the role of vice-chair of Yarlington.
Capsticks has announced 22 promotions, including in its housing and real estate divisions. Neha Shah and Sunita Raja, who specialise in real estate, are two of four new partners, while Mike Regan and Katrina Day (housing development) and Puja Solanki (real estate) have been made legal directors.
